Fall and Winter Driving Checklist
  • Up-to-date oil change, ensuring the correct viscosity for winter temps
  • Test battery for Cold Cranking Amps and ability to hold a charger
  • Check all fluids for freeze points or exchange out old power steering fluid, gearboxes, etc (Consider synthetic oils and winterized wiper fluids)
  • Check tire tread depth and air pressures including spare tire; consider snow tires. Make sure the tire jack is accessible and ready to use
  • Condition of belts, hoses, and wiper blades
  • Check the HVAC system for proper vent operation and fan strength
  • Ensure the engine reaches the proper operating temperature within the expected time
  • Check brakes for proper function, and even wear
  • Winter safety kit: flashlight, blanket, hand warmers, a snack, hat and gloves, boots, and a shovel and sand
  • Ice scraper
  • 4x4/AWD operation
